Daily Stoic Entry #102: What's the Truth About So-called "Honors" and "Riches"?
April 12th, 2022
Follow along with my personal daily stoic journal, unfiltered, unedited (except for some spelling mistakes).
It's the temptation of easy honors and riches you must watch out for. The things that aren't earned but given anyway should be inspected for their invisible strings. The expression 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' is quite misleading at times. Always be generous but never operate under the impression that a gift is always just a gift. Nothing is more expense than when it's free.
Besides any honors or riches, you've received without putting forth your own efforts will not receive their proper appreciation in your mind. When you work for your honors and riches, you will appreciate it more when you get it than when it was just given to you.
