Daily Stoic Entry #108: Do I Need to Have an Opinion About This?

No, it's so easy however, to get sucked into things nowadays. News and media are very clever in baiting us into discussions that don't add that much value to my personal life. And I've noticed that it's quite hard to abstain from certain 'stories' because even the people around you do have opinion sand talk about it. It's easier to abstain for example in professional matters if you obviously don't have relevant experience, leave it to the experts. Popular culture however, everyone seems to have an opinion.
They say, or I suspect the point is that having no opinion frees you up from unnecessary energy being spend on it. But I've noticed that, at first, it costs a lot of energy to resist the pull of dumbass news stories that people are riled up over. At times you almost can't avoid learning about it or seeing endless streams of headlines and opinions on whatever is making the rounds. This surprising simple task is deceptively difficult in the modern media landscape. It's worth the fight though, I think.
