Daily Stoic Entry #42: Is My Soul A Good Ruler Or A Tyrant?

February 11th 2022

Follow along with my personal daily stoic journal, unfiltered, unedited (except for some spelling mistakes).

Morning Reflection:

Tyrant. The pattern that's pretty obvious over these daily stoic journal entries so far is that you're incredibly hard on yourself. Where that comes from, who can say. Recently that critical voice has been heightened because you're taking responsibility for your flaws and realize you have to tackle these issues, ultimately, by yourself.

Evening Reflection:

However, is that the truth? Is my soul really a tyrant? Because look at the positive things you've done for yourself these last couple months. Fifty-eight consecutive days of meditation. Not a single week of going to the gym has been missed, going at least once to three times a week. A new job, with better hours and pay. More free time as a result. A consistent journal habit. Picked up an old hobby by playing basketball and joining a group that plays weekly. Already read many books this year. So are you really convinced you're a tyrant to yourself? Perhaps too self-critical but you accomplish way more than you think. Yes, it's been hard at times, but in such a short time you've probably made more progress in these last months than you thought you were capable of. So reflect and be proud as well. Keep going.
